"Due to Tyler Glasnow not being able to take the ball, Shohei Ohtani made a hell of an emergency starter tonight. While his pitch count did get inflated by deep counts, he got a clean 1st and gave up just a two-out single and wild pitch in the 2nd. The 3rd was a bit more dramatic, as he gave up a two-out walk and infield single, but he managed to wiggle out of that as well while providing a highlight via swearing."
"A double off the bag started a rally for the Orioles, and it was advanced to third when Dalton Rushing couldn't make yet another rather routine block. From there, Ohtani seemed to empty the tank in order to get back-to-back strikeouts to put the Dodgers on the verge of escape. Well, seeing Ohtani empty the tank to try and work around a double that hit the bag and another "wild pitch" from Rushing for back-to-back strikeouts was refreshing at least."
"Certainly a better emergency start than anybody else could've provided: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 70 Pitches. As alluded to, Dave Roberts surprisingly came to get Ohtani, and Anthony Banda entered. Things didn't look great as he issued a walk to corner things up and then fell behind 3-0 to the next batter before battling back to escape the jam."
The Dodgers fell 2-1 to the Orioles on a walk-off after reliever Tanner Scott surrendered the final run. Freddie Freeman supplied the Dodgers' lone run with a solo home run. Tyler Glasnow could not pitch, so Shohei Ohtani made an emergency start, throwing 3.2 innings with three hits allowed, zero runs, one walk and five strikeouts on 70 pitches. Ohtani battled deep counts, escaped multiple jams and recorded back-to-back strikeouts in the fourth. A double that hit the bag and a missed block by Dalton Rushing sparked an Orioles rally. Anthony Banda and Ben Casparius issued walks that helped set up the scoring.
