MLB Spring Breakout Expanding To Tournament-Style Format In 2027
"Spring Breakout has provided invaluable exposure to the future stars of our game and given our fans a preview of all the exciting talent that is flowing into our sport. With more meaningful games, the Spring Breakout Tournament will take this event to the next level and create a unique experience for our fans ahead of Opening Day."
"Spring Breakout has been a massive success since its introduction in 2024. This year's edition will take place from March 19-22, with all games being carried live by MLB Network, local regional sports networks and the league's digital properties."
Major League Baseball announced that Spring Breakout will transition to a tournament-style format starting in 2027. The new single-elimination tournament will debut next year to avoid conflicts with the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Top prospects will compete head-to-head for the first time in this format, with both the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues crowning champions. The 2026 Spring Breakout runs March 19-22, featuring 16 games across MLB Spring Training venues. Eleven games will be standalone events, while five will be paired as doubleheaders with MLB Spring Training games. All games air on MLB Network, regional sports networks, and digital platforms. Notable prospects expected to participate include Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark, and others.
