"He is doing OK. He's in good spirits. He's upright. He's alert."
"It was straight to the face. We're all thinking about David and his family right now. Obviously, we're glad he is OK, but obviously it's a really scary moment."
"Really tough. I've already reached out to him. I'm sure his phone is blowing up. I just want to make sure he's all right. Obviously, he seemed like he was OK coming off the field, and hopefully it stays that way. I know sometimes with those things that can change. So hopefully he's all right."
Guardians designated hitter David Fry sustained a broken nose and facial fractures after being struck in the nose and mouth by a 99 mph Tarik Skubal fastball in the sixth inning. Fry collapsed in the batter's box, grabbed his bloodied face, lay in the dirt for several minutes, gave a thumbs-up and was driven off in a cart. The team transported Fry from Lutheran Medical Center to the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus for further testing and observation. Manager Stephen Vogt said Fry is doing OK, upright, alert and in good spirits and visited him in the hospital. Skubal said he has reached out and hopes Fry remains all right.
