"Once Carlson regained health in 2020, the minor league season was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, Carlson started 19 games, accruing a 6-4 record with a 4.77 ERA across 100 innings pitched for the Single-A Mariners' affiliate. Following the 2023 season, Carlson elected free agency as a six-year minor league veteran. He then signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers, pitching in relief for the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers throughout 2024."
Sam Carlson signed a minor league deal with the Houston Astros after entering free agency. Carlson expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and announced the new opportunity with the Astros. The right-hander was drafted No. 55 overall by the Seattle Mariners in 2017 and rose to become a top pitching prospect before experiencing elbow discomfort and undergoing Tommy John surgery. Carlson missed the remainder of 2018 and all of 2019, returned amid the 2020 pandemic cancellation, and posted a 6-4 record with a 4.77 ERA in 2021. He elected free agency after 2023 and spent 2024 with the Brewers' Double-A affiliate before joining the Dodgers and now the Astros.
