"It was the first time in his career that a team Mattingly was a part of played in the World Series. His playing career lasted 14 seasons, all with the New York Yankees, but they never made the World Series in his tenure. Mattingly never made it as a manager or bench coach either. That said, Mattingly is one of eight individuals who could be inducted into the Hall of Fame through the Contemporary Era ballot."
"Although the 64-year-old has stepped down, his tenure in baseball is far from over. Heyman reported that Mattingly is open to managing once again, having done so with the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2010-2015, as well as the Miami Marlins from 2016-2022. As a manager, Mattingly has a 443-587 record, making the National League Divisional Series four times and the National League Championship Series once in his career."
Don Mattingly joined the Blue Jays in 2023 as a bench coach and shifted to offensive coordinator after the team lost both Wild Card games. The Blue Jays finished 74-88 in 2024. Before the 2025 season Mattingly returned to the bench coach role, and the team won the American League East and the AL pennant, advancing to a Game 7 World Series loss. Mattingly's 14-season playing career with the New York Yankees never included a World Series appearance. Mattingly has a 443-587 managerial record, four NLDS appearances and one NLCS appearance. Mattingly remains open to managing and could join another major league staff.
