"Tibbs is the only player I can think of who was taken in the top half of the first round and then traded twice during his first full pro season. He really took off after joining the Dodgers, and I bet we see more consistency out of him when he's not bouncing between [organizations] in 2026."
"I like James Tibbs. I like him a lot. He loves baseball, he is obsessed with getting better at the game and he just fits who I am as a baseball coach, and the players that we want, so he's going to play in the big leagues. He's a championship-type player."
James Tibbs III was selected 13th overall by the San Francisco Giants in the 2024 MLB draft but experienced rapid organizational changes. The Giants traded him to the Boston Red Sox along with Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks, and Jose Bello for Rafael Devers. Six weeks later, the Red Sox traded Tibbs and Zach Ehrhard to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Dustin May. This represents an unusual situation in baseball, as prospect analyst Jim Callis cannot recall another top-half first-round pick traded twice during his first full professional season. Since joining the Dodgers, Tibbs has demonstrated significant improvement, posting strong statistics at double-A Tulsa and impressing during spring training with a .281 batting average and .914 OPS through 15 Cactus League games. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has expressed confidence in Tibbs' potential as a championship-caliber player.
