"The two biggest factors are knowing the fact that I'm healthy, and mechanically, just being able to finally find a place where I feel really confident with my mechanics,"
"Just looking back, I think the bad habits I got from throwing a slider really affected my shoulder health as well as my velo,"
Roki Sasaki returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers and made his first Major League appearance since May 9 after spending most of the season on the 60-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement. He used the time to reset mentally and physically and shifted into a relief role after a Triple-A Oklahoma City rehab assignment. His fastball velocity climbed to an average of 99.2 mph, up 3.2 mph from his season average, and topped at 99.8 mph. He focused on lower-half mechanics and proper shoulder movement and acknowledged slider-related bad habits may have hurt his shoulder and velocity. Sustained upper-90s velo and strike-throwing could make him a high-impact reliever and potential starter next season.
