Dodgers Lose Three Prospects During 2025 MLB Rule 5 Draft
"The 2025 Rule 5 Draft was held Wednesday during the annual MLB Winter Meetings, with a total of 68 players selected across the Major League and Minor League phases. The Los Angeles Dodgers had three of their own prospects selected, but did not make any picks of their own. All three of the players were taken in the Minor League phase of the annual Rule 5 Draft."
"A team needed to have room on their 40-man roster in order to make a pick during the Rule 5 Draft. Clubs pay $100,000 to select a player in the Major League phase, and must remain on the active roster for the full ensuing season or be offered back to his former team for $50,000. It costs $24,000 to take a player in the Minor League phase, with no restrictions on where they can be placed."
The 2025 Rule 5 Draft selected 68 players across Major and Minor League phases during the MLB Winter Meetings. Teams had until Nov. 18 to add players to 40-man rosters to prevent eligibility; players signed at 18 or younger become eligible after five seasons, those 19 or older after four seasons. Major League picks cost $100,000 and require staying on the active roster or being offered back for $50,000. Minor League picks cost $24,000 with no placement restrictions. The Dodgers lost three prospects in the Minor League phase, protected Ronan Kopp and Ryan Ward, and previously protected Jack Dreyer.
