Dodgers Lose Catcher to National League Rival
"Robinson was essentially the backup catcher in Triple-A, but after All-Star Will Smith went down and rookie Dalton Rushing landed on the IL shortly after, the spotlight went straight to both Robinson and Ben Rortvedt in Triple-A. Rortvedt quickly proved himself as being worthy of taking over at a time when depth had never been worse for the Dodgers, both in his framing and game-calling abilities, plus his consistent bat. In 14 appearances this month, Rortvedt is hitting .270 with three RBIs."
"When Smith officially went on the injured list, Robinson was recalled. Although his role won't show it through his stats, his presence provided relief for a championship contender suddenly working without a consistent backstop situation. The emergence of Rortvedt is something that nobody could have planned for, but Robinson will hope to get more opportunities in Atlanta. Robinson was traded from the Chicago White Sox to the Los Angeles Angels this past December but had yet to log a big league appearance for the Halos."
Chuckie Robinson was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves and optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett, with RHP Daysbel Hernández transferred to the 60-day IL to open a 40-man spot. Robinson played one major-league game for the Dodgers and made 51 appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, hitting .254/.337/.348 with a .685 OPS. He served as a Triple-A backup before injuries to Will Smith and Dalton Rushing thrust him and Ben Rortvedt into contention; Rortvedt emerged as a reliable option. Robinson was previously traded from the White Sox to the Angels, spent time in Triple-A there, and was DFA'd earlier this season.
