Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Gives Ultimate Praise to Yoshinobu Yamamoto After World Series
"I don't think you'll ever see what you saw Yoshi do tonight. That was probably the most gutsy, ballsy thing any guy has ever done. He's used to pitching on a week's rest the whole season. For him to come in and say he's willing to do that and throw not just one inning but - what was it, (2.2 innings) whatever it was? You can't even describe that."
"Yamamoto closed the game for the Dodgers, pitching 2.2 innings without allowing a run. The right-hander made three appearances in the World Series, allowing just two runs through 17.2 innings on his way to his first World Series MVP award. Kershaw has come in on short rest for the Dodgers in the postseason during his 18 seasons in MLB, coming in on minimal days of rest during the World Series in 2017 and 2018, however acknowledged Yamamoto's outstanding achievement this season."
"I've done some short rest stuff (in the playoffs). I've pitched on one day rest. I've never done no day's rest. ... (Yamamoto) is amazing. He really is."
Yoshinobu Yamamoto closed Game 7 for the Dodgers, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings after pitching six innings in Game 6 the day before. He made three World Series appearances, allowed two runs across 17.2 innings, and won his first World Series MVP. Clayton Kershaw praised Yamamoto's willingness to pitch on no rest and called the effort extremely gutsy. Kershaw noted his own history of short-rest postseason work but said he had never pitched with zero days' rest. Kershaw will retire after the season, finishing with three recent World Series titles and numerous individual honors.
