Braves vs. Mariners series recap: A calamity in Cobb County
"After all, the Braves had performed pretty solidly at home and the Mariners were essentially limping into town after having struggled up to this point during this road trip (and having struggled on the road in general this season). Yeah, one team has real postseason aspirations and the other one is playing out the string but it wasn't delusional to thing that this could've been a competitive series."
"Chris Sale's first start on the mound in Cobb County after having returned from the 60-Day IL was a successful one, as Sale continued to pick up exactly where he had left off before he suffered his unfortunate injury. In fact, Sale's line against the Mariners was strikingly similar to how he fared in Philadelphia - last week, he went six innings and only gave up one run on three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts."
Expectations existed that the Atlanta Braves could be competitive against the Seattle Mariners because the Braves had been solid at home while the Mariners struggled on the road. The Mariners dominated from the seventh inning of Saturday through all of Sunday, applying road frustration across two games. Chris Sale returned from the 60-day injured list and produced a strong outing, pitching into the seventh and allowing one run with nine strikeouts. The Braves managed only one run off Logan Gilbert. The game featured an eighth-inning rally initiated by Jurickson Profar's double and a big Matt Olson hit that briefly put Atlanta ahead; Ozzie Albies hit a long ball.
