Aaron Judge: Yankees in good spot after slow offseason start
"Early on it was pretty tough to watch. I'm like, 'Man, we're the New York Yankees. Let's go out there and get the right people.'"
"Let's sign these guys right now and start adding more pieces because I'm seeing other teams around the league get better. They're making trades. They're signing big prospects or big players. And we're sitting there for a while kind of making smaller moves."
"I've never dealt with any elbow stuff, so I was definitely concerned."
Aaron Judge fretted as big-name free agents signed elsewhere and felt the Yankees were slow to make major moves. New York retained center fielder Trent Grisham early but delayed larger transactions until late in the offseason. Judge communicated internal frustration about the pace of additions while maintaining belief that the roster is now where it needs to be. Judge addressed missing 10 games from July 25 to Aug. 5 due to a right-elbow flexor strain sustained July 22, noted reduced throwing velocity after return, and confirmed medical testing ultimately cleared him to avoid surgery. Judge also homered and struck out against Carlos Lagrange and will captain the U.S. in the World Baseball Classic.
