8 former Blue Jays who are worth watching at the World Baseball Classic
"Yusei Kikuchi, the most notable of the bunch, is arguably a former starting pitcher who played for the Blue Jays from 2022-2024, getting traded at that year's deadline for Jake Bloss, Joey Loperfido and Will Wagner in a deal with the Houston Astros. Kikuchi had a great year in 2025 with the LA Angles, pitching to a 3.3 bWAR, throwing 178.1 innings in 33 starts and compiling a 3.99 ERA and 174 strikeouts."
"Seranthony Dominguez, a member of the Blue Jays World Series roster, found a new place to play in 2026, as he signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox. Dominguez had a 3.00 ERA in 24 games with Toronto after the trade deadline and had 10 strikeouts in 11.1 innings of playoff baseball with a 3.18 ERA."
The World Baseball Classic begins this week with multiple Toronto Blue Jays players competing internationally across venues in Houston, Miami, San Juan, and Tokyo. Former Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi, traded to Houston in 2024, had a strong 2025 season with the LA Angels and makes his WBC debut for defending champion Japan alongside World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Seranthony Dominguez, a member of Toronto's World Series roster, signed with the Chicago White Sox and brings his relief pitching skills to Team Dominican Republic. Taijuan Walker, who briefly played for the Blue Jays, also participates in the tournament representing his country.
