"He attacks the top of the strike zone with a 90-91 mph heater, an approach that gets a decent number of weak fly balls but also makes him susceptible to home runs. That's especially true at the hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park. Springs has settled in as a mid-rotation arm, a control artist with league average strikeout stuff."
The Athletics acquired Jeff McNeil in a salary-dump trade from the Mets to fill a second-base need after Ha-Seong Kim declined a four-year offer. The A’s took on $10MM of McNeil’s $15.75MM salary for the season, while the Mets cover a $2MM buyout on a matching club option if he is not brought back in 2027. McNeil is likely to be a one-year stop, posting a league-average .276/.343/.362 line with limited power and unexceptional second-base defense. The Athletics also acquired Tyler Springs from Tampa Bay with two years and $21MM remaining. Springs has avoided the injured list, but his performance has declined from his 2022 form, settling as a mid-rotation control pitcher with a hittable fastball and home-run vulnerability at Sutter Health Park.
