"Suddenly, while she was watching television, he attacked her using two large knives. One was serrated and the other was a ham knife. He inflicted 67 stab wounds, many in the heart and lungs, and others on her leg, neck and stomach. He then washed the body with hydrogen peroxide and alcohol, carried it into the bedroom, and called the police."
"I want everyone to know where a woman was murdered in their neighborhood so they can visit the site and learn her story. They want to raise awareness about femicides and the fact that they can happen right next door. They believe that only through awareness can such violence and murder be prevented."
Artrededor is a digital platform created by Spanish conceptual artist Jana Leo and her sister Isabel that maps femicide locations across Madrid on a virtual interface. The app documents 157 women killed by partners over 20 years in the Madrid region, providing graphic descriptions of each case in text and audio formats. Each case includes detailed information about the circumstances and perpetrator's behavior patterns. The creators aim to increase public awareness by showing where femicides occur in neighborhoods, believing that visibility and knowledge of these crimes can help prevent future violence. The project uses official data and is updated annually to maintain current information about femicide cases.
