Quarterback Joey Aguilar is set to transfer from UCLA to Tennessee, following a previous move to UCLA from Appalachian State. This decision comes after a challenging season for the Mountaineers and a coaching change that led Aguilar to seek new opportunities. His time at UCLA was short-lived, as he cited the excitement of returning home to California. Aguilar had a stellar performance with Appalachian State, throwing for 6,760 yards and 56 touchdowns over two years, and aims to continue his athletic career at Tennessee, reshaping the landscape of quarterback talent at both schools.
Aguilar will trade places with Nico Iamaleava, who transferred from Tennessee to UCLA on Sunday, ending a whirlwind week that began with a headline-grabbing break-up with the Volunteers.
Playing back at home is going to be amazing," Aguilar told ESPN's Pete Thamel at the time. "Especially for my family, a lot closer commute and more of them can come.
Aguilar threw for 6,760 yards and 56 touchdowns in his past two years with the Mountaineers. He previously spent two seasons at Diablo Valley Community College in Northern California.
