Sturla Holm Lægreid won his first individual Olympic medal, taking bronze in the 20-kilometer individual race at the Milan-Cortina Games. He used a post-race interview with Norwegian broadcaster NRK to reveal he had been unfaithful to his girlfriend three months earlier. He said he met the love of his life six months ago and described her as the world's most beautiful, sweetest person. He told reporters he admitted the infidelity to her about a week before the race and said sport had taken a back seat in recent days. He expressed a wish to share the medal moment with her. Johan-Olav Botn won gold and Eric Perrot took silver in the race.
