"He's the No. 1 running back in the City Section."
"The coaches made me come out," Miller said. "They kept asking me and I said I'd give it a try. Now I love it."
"He's a natural at running back," coach John Petty said."
"I feel I can still get better," he said."
Darnell Miller is a 17-year-old Santee High senior who leads the Los Angeles City Section in rushing at midseason with 1,159 yards and 13 touchdowns for a 4-1 team. He walks his 10-year-old brother to elementary school each morning, then walks another 20 minutes to Santee High and sometimes jogs to pick up his brother after practice. Miller is 6-foot, 170 pounds, runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash, and also plays basketball and runs track. He moved from Memphis in late 2018, did not play football as a freshman, and switched from receiver to running back midseason after a teammate's injury. Coaches praise his natural ability, and Miller remains focused on improving while caring for his younger brother.
