"It'd be hard to imagine him not being on our team. He's having a great spring, man. He's just a good player. It's good, because I didn't really know much about him, but seeing him every day, [he's] fun to watch."
"I feel like the offense part of it, I've been working consistently with the hitting coaches, just looking at videos, looking at little details. There's either something going on with my lower body or something going on with my upper body. Where are my hands at, all this stuff, so that's something that we literally every day just work on."
Santiago Espinal, a 31-year-old former All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays, signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a minor league deal after being removed from the Cincinnati Reds' 40-man roster. Following two disappointing seasons with the Reds where he posted minus-WAR numbers and a .245/.294/.322 slash line, Espinal rejected a triple-A assignment and became a free agent. During spring training, he has excelled, leading the Dodgers in home runs and RBIs while posting a .500/.519/.900 slash line. With injuries to utility players Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández, Espinal has an opportunity to make the roster. His versatility across infield and outfield positions, combined with an improved offensive approach focusing on attacking early counts, has impressed manager Dave Roberts.
