Cal State East Bay men's basketball team begin postseason play after perfect regular season
"Every day we keep working, grinding and hopefully win a national championship title. Right now, we are the only undefeated team in the country, regardless of level, so it's pretty exciting times. The first day of practice, we had guys that were ready to go, ready to buy in. We all put our egos down very quickly and bought into what our coaches are trying to apply to us so we could just win games."
"It's been a build. It hasn't been just about one game. It's been since day one, from when we've come together. It's one of the best decisions we've ever made in recruiting. The team's success is the result of sustained effort since the start of the season, with players establishing a culture focused on collective achievement rather than individual recognition."
Cal State East Bay's men's basketball team achieved a historic milestone by finishing the regular season 30-0, becoming the first NCAA Division II team in three decades to complete an undefeated regular season. The Pioneers are the only undefeated team in the country across all levels. Leading scorer Tyree Campbell was named Regional Player of the Year. The team's success stems from a strong culture established from the first day of practice, with players prioritizing team goals over individual egos. Head coach Bryan Rooney credits sustained effort since the season's beginning. The roster includes transfers from Sonoma State, which Rooney considers one of the program's best recruiting decisions. Cal State East Bay hosts the NCAA Division II West Regionals, beginning with Humboldt Lumberjacks.
