After devastating firestorms affected Los Angeles area utilities, the state has confirmed that all nine water systems, previously under 'do not drink' advisories, are now clear. The last utility, Las Flores Water Co., resumed safe water delivery, impacting around 23,000 customers in Altadena and Pacific Palisades. Steps were taken by officials to assess water systems and test for contaminants. Significant health concerns included benzene, prompting necessary cautions. This restoration marks an important milestone in the region's post-fire recovery efforts.
"Restoring drinking water service is one of the most vital steps in any disaster recovery," said State Water Board Chair E. Joaquin Esquivel. "The lifting of all drinking water advisories marks a major milestone in post-fire recovery."
Officials from the State Water Resources Control Board said they have been working with utilities to help assess damage, test for potential contamination and ensure it's safe to resume water service.
