An explosion at a reproductive health facility in Palm Springs, California, resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The explosion occurred before 11 a.m. PDT and was identified by Mayor Ron DeHarte as caused by a bomb, potentially located in or near a vehicle. Dr. Maher Abdallah, director of the facility, reported no patients were harmed, as the day had no appointments. The FBI has initiated an investigation and sent bomb technicians to assess the incident, which has raised safety concerns in the community.
It has been identified as a bomb that was either in or near the car, said Mayor Ron DeHarte.
Thank God today happened to be a day that we have no patients, said Dr. Maher Abdallah.
The explosion damaged the office space where consultations with patients are conducted, but left the IVF lab and all of the stored embryos unharmed.
The Los Angeles office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was investigating the explosion and had deployed bomb technicians to the scene.
