"Chinatown is not made up of only Chinese people. We have all kinds of nationalities living in Chinatown now, so we wanted to celebrate that."
"a beautiful show of unity,"
"We love all the tchotchkes,"
Thousands gathered along Hill and Broadway in Los Angeles' Chinatown for the 127th Golden Dragon Parade to celebrate the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Fire Horse. The Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles hosted the family-friendly event showcasing traditional lion and dragon dances alongside marching bands, ballet folklórico performers and a bagpipe troupe under the theme "Unity in the Community." Children held red envelopes and lion dancers playfully "ate" offerings. Attendees of many backgrounds attended, with families continuing annual traditions and visitors purchasing festive items like lion puppets, Pokémon goods and milagros from nearby Olvera Street.
