The Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), a popular stretch of California highway, has reopened to commuters ahead of Memorial Day after being closed since January due to the Palisades Fire. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the reopening on May 23, crediting the effort to the hard work of construction crews and the Army Corps of Engineers. Local officials have established a robust security presence to ensure safety amidst damaged areas, implementing a 25 mph speed limit. The reopening signifies progress in recovery efforts, with reports indicating significant destruction from the fire and its impact on local communities.
We're opening the PCH back up early, with more lanes before Angelenos hit the road this Memorial Day. We are able to do this thanks to the tireless work of hundreds of construction and road crews.
The reopening of Pacific Coast Highway marks an important step forward in our recovery effort in the Palisades, which is on track to be the fastest in state history.
