""It speaks to his talent," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently said of Ohtani's streak. "You can see him hustling down the line there to keep that inning going, to get that infield hit. Shawn had a great streak. For him to tie that streak, or eclipse it, says a lot about Shohei.""
""He's really not hit his stride yet. He's really not comfortable with his swing. It just shows that he's still an impact player. He's getting on base. The streak speaks to that.""
Shohei Ohtani's on-base streak ended at 53 games during a game against the San Francisco Giants. This streak ties him with Shawn Green's record from 2000. Ohtani's streak was the longest in MLB history for a Japanese-born player, surpassing Ichiro Suzuki's 43 games. During the streak, Ohtani achieved 34 hits, 23 walks, and four intentional walks. His previous high was a 36-game streak while with the Los Angeles Angels. Ohtani also met a 100-year-old Nagasaki survivor before a game against the Colorado Rockies.
