Palisades water supply cleared for drinking as Bass touts speed of fire recovery
Briefly

Mayor Karen Bass announced that the do-not-drink notice for Pacific Palisades will be lifted, allowing residents to safely use water again. This comes two months after the devastating Palisades fire, attributed to quick efforts by the LA Department of Water and Power to flush contaminants from the water supply. Residents are advised to flush their systems for at least 10 minutes before using water. City officials pointed out the rapid recovery compared to previous fires, highlighting Bass's commitment to rebuilding the community promptly.
Bass credited DWP crews for working seven days a week to restore and flush out toxic substances from the water supply, drawing a comparison to the November 2018 wildfire in Paradise, where the do-not-drink advisory remained in place until May 2020.
Janisse Quiñones, chief engineer and chief executive of DWP, emphasized that residents should flush their systems for at least 10 minutes to ensure the water is safe post-recovery.
'In the tragic Camp Fire, it took 18 months. It was done here in two,' Bass said at a news conference. 'I'm committed to rebuilding this community at lightning speed.'
