Only 9 Building Permits Have Been Issued Since Altadena Fire-but First Rebuild Is Finally Underway
Briefly

Four months post-wildfires in Los Angeles, rebuilding efforts remain stagnant, particularly in Altadena where only nine permits have been issued after significant destruction. Other areas like Pacific Palisades show a more proactive rebuilding pace. The wildfires caused massive damage, with over 12,000 parcels affected and significant fatalities. Margot Stuebert has been highlighted as the first Altadena homeowner to start rebuilding after managing to secure initial debris removal, marking a small step in recovery amidst slow governmental progress.
According to the rebuilding dashboard recently launched by Los Angeles County to track the recovery progress, as of Friday, just nine permits have been issued in the area impacted by the Eaton fire.
Margot Stuebert, 68, lost her 100-year-old, three-bedroom cottage on West Palm Street when Altadena was overwhelmed by the Eaton wildfire.
A little over a month later, Stueber became the first Altadena homeowner to have her flame-ravaged property undergo heavy-duty debris removal by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Then in late April, more than two months after the Phase 2 debris clearing was complete on Stueber's parcel of land, she celebrated as a work crew broke ground on rebuilding.
