More than 50,000 Los Angeles county workers strike disrupting key services
Briefly

Over 50,000 Los Angeles County workers initiated a two-day strike amid unsuccessful contract negotiations with the county. Employees from various sectors, including public health and social services, walk out after their previous contract expired in March. Union leaders have accused the county of numerous labor law violations, contributing to their decision to strike. The labor action disrupted essential services like libraries and healthcare clinics. Union representatives are seeking respect and improved conditions, as the county claims to face significant financial challenges due to various liabilities and budget constraints.
The labor action is set to last until 7pm on Wednesday. During this time, libraries, some healthcare clinics, beach bathrooms and public service counters at the hall of administration are expected to be closed.
The union has accused the county of 44 labor law violations during contract negotiations, including surveillance and retaliation against workers engaging in union activity and contracting out positions represented by the union.
