Despite the threat of cancellation from severe wildfires, Frieze Los Angeles successfully upheld its VIP preview, fostering a family-like atmosphere among participants. The event showcased resilience within the art community, prioritizing the needs of impacted Angeleno artists. Attendees reported strong sales and widespread attendance, dispelling initial concerns. Prominent figures emphasized the unity seen in the Los Angeles art scene, reflecting on the fair's ability to support local artists and foster connections amidst adversity, while facilitating transactions and raising relief funds.
When a city meets this kind of a challenge, you find out what it's made of. In people's imaginations, Los Angeles holds this cliché that it's spread out or a little disconnected, but to see so many people show up and multiple relief funds target the specific needs of artists is heartening.
After the VIP breakfast, everyone wanted to continue sitting together. Many asked how they could help, and I told them they were here to transact and support. And we're seeing the results of that today.
