Liliana Escobar leads JSerra to Division 1 softball title
Liliana Escobar recorded 12 strikeouts to lead JSerra to its first Southern Section Division 1 championship with a 3-2 win over La Mirada at Bill Barber Field in Irvine. JSerra scored an RBI single by Magenta De Arte in the first inning and RBI doubles from Ava Born and Annabel Raftery in the second for a 3-0 lead. La Mirada added two runs in the fifth, but Escobar finished strong despite walking five batters. In Division 2, Whittier Christian beat Mater Dei 5-3, tying with two runs in the seventh and taking the lead with two home runs in the eighth; Mia Camacho had three hits and three RBIs, and Bella Perez hit a two-run homer. In City Section Open Division, Carson defeated Granada Hills 12-1 in five innings via the 10-run mercy rule at Legacy High, with home runs by Anaiyah Popoalii and Ashannalee Titialii; Isabella Campos allowed four hits with five strikeouts and zero walks, and Titialii had three RBIs.
