Jay Gandhi, a retired federal judge and seasoned mediator, joins a lawsuit against Los Angelesâ Department of Water and Power after losing his home in the recent Palisades fire. He is striving for accountability for affected residents. The lawsuit alleges negligence regarding water availability as vital reservoirs were empty during the fire and accuses LADWP of failing to shut off power lines before the fire spread. This lawsuit, initiated on January 13, now has over 750 plaintiffs, including Judge Dean Pregerson, who also lost his home.
"It was a sense of security and safety that went up in smoke on January 7," Gandhi said Tuesday, announcing his participation against the backdrop of his charred property.
The suit focuses on the lack of water in the Palisades, alleging that two reservoirs key to public use in the area were not full.
The complaint states that the Santa Ynez Reservoir was empty, having been out of commission since February, awaiting repairs to its cover.
Gandhi joins a suit filed on Jan. 13, which now represents more than 750 fire plaintiffs.
