Police responded just after 5:30 a.m. to reports of gunshots in the 900 block of Broadway and found shots came from a unit at Broadway Palace Apartments. Officers determined the person inside was armed and refused to exit, prompting a barricaded-suspect designation and a SWAT deployment with a built-in crisis negotiation team. Streets from Eighth to Olympic and Main to Hill were closed and residents were asked to shelter in place. Police searched the complex for victims and established containment and communication lines while urging the occupant to surrender to reduce the need for forced entry.
