Gilgo Beach suspect expected to plead guilty to murder of 8th woman today

Rex Heuermann is anticipated to plead guilty to the murders of eight women, including Karen Vergata, who disappeared in 1996. Vergata was previously known as 'Fire Island Jane Doe.' Heuermann's alleged killings occurred between 1993 and 2010, with seven women already linked to him. He has maintained his innocence since his arrest in July 2023. A wrongful death lawsuit has also been filed by Benjamin Torres, the son of victim Valerie Mack, against Heuermann and his family members ahead of the court appearance.
