Ex-Los Angeles deputy mayor for public safety will admit he faked bomb threat
Briefly

Brian K. Williams, a former deputy mayor in Los Angeles, is set to plead guilty to a felony charge of making a bomb threat against City Hall. In October 2024, he texted Mayor Karen Bass about a caller who threatened to place a bomb in the building due to the city's stance on Israel. Federal prosecutors revealed that he made the call himself from a blocked number. Williams faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. The FBI searched his home, and he was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Williams sent a text message to LA Mayor Karen Bass and other high-ranking city officials on Oct. 3, 2024, claiming a male caller had threatened to bomb City Hall.
Investigators discovered that the call was made by Williams himself through Google Voice, leading to his indictment for making an explosives threat.
