Blake Snell was reinstated from the paternity list after leaving after his start Friday to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. Snell threw seven innings and allowed two runs in the series opener against the San Diego Padres. MLB's paternity list allows up to a three-day leave and was added to the CBA in 2011. Kirby Yates was activated and pitched the ninth inning on Sunday. Snell is expected to start Friday against Arizona. Alex Vesia was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Aug. 23 with a right oblique strain; he is 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA in 59 appearances and last pitched Aug. 21.

Snell has a 1.96 ERA across four starts since returning from the injured list. In that span he's thrown 23 innings with 26 strikeouts to seven walks. In his two starts from Aug. 9-16, Snell pitched 11 scoreless innings.
