"I just keep making terrible pitch selections right when it matters, and it's costing us every time,"
"It sucks. It feels terrible. And I have to figure it out. Because baseball hates me right now."
"It was one of those things where you've got count leverage on a guy, you've got to expand and go for the swing-and-miss. I just thought right there he didn't make a good pitch. The guy put a good swing on it. I thought in totality the stuff was good but, yeah, the one pitch when you get 1-2 and you make a bad pitch - he made us"
Tanner Scott allowed a 98.7 mph four-seam fastball to be hit 433 feet for a walk-off home run by Samuel Basallo, dropping the Los Angeles Dodgers to 78-63 and marking a fourth straight loss. Scott carries a 4.56 ERA after signing a four-year, $72 million contract this offseason. Scott posted a 1.75 ERA with 22 saves over 72 innings between Miami and San Diego in 2024. Scott acknowledged poor pitch selection in key moments. Basallo had hit .270 with a .966 OPS and 23 homers in Triple-A. Manager Dave Roberts questioned Scott's pitch mix and urged expanding in counts to induce swing-and-miss.
