Dodgers Pitcher Reveals He Was Surprised to Be Traded
"I was just kind of like, 'Alright, here we go,'"
"It was unexpected because I felt like I had a pretty good relationship with the Mariners, but that's just how the trade world goes."
"I'm excited, I'm stoked,"
"I've heard nothing but good things from the org. It's going to be fun to pick their brains, see what their mindset's at from a young pitching perspective."
The Los Angeles Dodgers traded left-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for 22-year-old right-hander Tyler Gough. Gough was drafted by the Mariners in 2022 and made 10 appearances in 2023 and 23 starts in 2024, improving from a 5.70 ERA in 30 innings with 24 strikeouts to a 4.33 ERA in 95.2 innings with 99 strikeouts, a 1.41 WHIP and a .244 opponent average. Gough missed the entire 2025 season due to Tommy John surgery and is expected to return during the 2026 season while recovering with the Dodgers. Ortiz had been in the Dodgers organization since 2017 and reached Triple-A in 2025; the trade opened a 40-man roster spot for the Dodgers.
