"Ben has done a lot of nice things for us, he really has. And he's still a big part of what we're doing this year."
"Getting Ben back to dominating right-hand hitters is something that we felt, if we can kind of give a chance to catch his breath, get to OKC and get back to that, it'll be more helpful for us the rest of the year, and potentially throughout the postseason,"
Ben Casparius was optioned to Triple-A after his ERA ballooned to 6.31 since the start of June across 27 outings, following a strong 2.72 ERA through May. The demotion is intended as a reset to allow him to catch his breath, work on getting back to dominating right-handed hitters, and return more effective for the regular season and potential postseason. Alex Vesia was activated from the injured list and has a 2.67 ERA this season. Brock Stewart remains on the injured list after allowing runs in his early Dodgers innings, leaving the bullpen in flux.
