The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking forward to the return of injured pitchers Kirby Yates, Tanner Scott, and Michael Kopech, potentially enhancing their struggling bullpen. Yates is progressing well, facing hitters and expected to begin a short rehab assignment soon. Tanner Scott, out since July 22 due to elbow inflammation, participated in a simulated game, indicating he feels ready to contribute again. The Dodgers have accelerated Scott's recovery timeline, intending for him to throw batting practice sooner than initially planned. The bullpen has faced challenges, but these returns may provide crucial support.
Yates faced hitters on Wednesday and is scheduled to do so again on Saturday, which could be followed by a short rehab assignment. "Kirby is going to be the next off the IL, so I think that's encouraging," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.
Scott took his turn of pitching in a simulated game this week, throwing 22 pitches. "Good. Everything felt good, ball is coming out good," Scott said, indicating he is ready for the next steps.
Scott has been on the IL since July 22 with left elbow inflammation, marking the first arm issue of his career, but he has responded well to treatment including a cortisone shot.
The Dodgers initially planned for Scott to throw live batting practice next week but decided to accelerate his timeline as he felt prepared earlier in the week.
