Dodgers have to be encouraged by Alex Freeland earning this honor
"The Dodgers could have simply optioned Kim or designated Santiago Espinal for assignment, but felt it was more prudent to send Freeland down as a way to get regular playing time with the Comets. Freeland rejoining the Dodgers this season will presumably hinge on the health of other players or if Kim starts to struggle."
Alex Freeland was named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week for May 11-17 after strong production with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Triple-A Oklahoma City affiliate. He went 10-for-25 (.400) with two triples, three home runs, 11 RBI, three walks, and eight runs scored in five games against the Albuquerque Isotopes. After an 0-for-4 first appearance with the Comets, he followed with four straight multi-hit games. His assignment to Triple-A came during a roster crunch tied to Mookie Betts returning from the injured list. Freeland’s path back to the Dodgers depends on the health of other players and whether Hyeseong Kim struggles, while Espinal’s outlook is linked to Kiké Hernández’s return from the 60-day injured list. Freeland is the second Comets player to win the weekly honor this season.
