Disneyland once turned Main Street into a massive swimming pool
Briefly

In 2004, Disneyland hosted a remarkable event called Swim with the Stars to celebrate Olympian Michael Phelps' victory. The park constructed an Olympic-sized swimming pool on Main Street U.S.A., which contained over 100,000 gallons of water. This pool was built within 36 hours and directly obstructed primary park paths during operations. The event featured Olympians racing and swimming relays with local youth, aiming to inspire future medalists. Jay Rasulo emphasized the importance of sharing the athletes' spirit of accomplishment with communities across the nation. This event demonstrated Disneyland's commitment to turning dreams into realities.
We decided that the best way to celebrate Michael Phelps' Olympic victory visit to Disneyland was to build him an Olympic size swimming pool right on Main Street U.S.A., a pool that had to be constructed and filled in a mere 36 hours.
Disney is all about turning dreams into realities and through this tour it's our goal to share the spirit of accomplishment and pride these great athletes generated in Athens with the gold medal winners of tomorrow in communities across the country.
