Deadliest day for LA Sheriff's Department in 168 years after fatal explosion

Three deputies of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department died in an explosion at the Arson/Explosives Detail compound. The blast occurred around 7:30 a.m. at a facility used for training and handling explosives. Sheriff Robert G. Luna noted this is the largest loss of life for the department since 1857, with the fallen deputies collectively serving 74 years. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation, and no other personnel were harmed.
