The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their second loss in three games to the Colorado Rockies, falling 8-3 with Tanner Gordon on the mound. Gordon, who has made 17 MLB starts and entered with a 7.98 ERA, worked six innings, allowed four hits, one run and struck out three. Teoscar Hernández hit a solo home run for the Dodgers' lone run. Gordon relies heavily on a fastball that averages 92 mph and used it more than half the time in the outing. Several top Dodgers hitters struggled, including Will Smith, and the two losses narrowed the division lead to one game.
"I really don't have an answer," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts about losing to Gordon. "Obviously he's a command guy. We didn't hit the fastball. I don't think we took good swings off anything soft. I don't know the answer."
"This was baffling in the sense of the guys that we have, that we're running out there, just to see the inconsistencies," Roberts said. "We're trying to figure it out. This has got to be one that we just really wash away. I'm very grateful we have a day game tomorrow."
