Cal State L.A. is allowing professors to move classes online in response to student fears regarding immigration raids. Although no raids have occurred on campus, students have expressed anxiety about using public transportation and commuting. The university also provides options for excused absences and alternative make-up work for affected students. Provost Heather Lattimer emphasized the impact of recent events in the LA area and the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of the university community. The campus has a significant immigrant population and aims to support it amid ongoing concerns.
Leaders at Cal State LA said this week that professors can move their classes online amid growing fears over immigration raids voiced by students at the campus east of downtown.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Lattimer wrote Wednesday, 'Recent events in the LA area - including the presence of heavily armed immigration agents in MacArthur Park...have left many in our community concerned for their safety.'
