BREAKING: Dodgers reportedly non-tender Evan Phillips
"Reliever Evan Phillips non-tendered by Dodgers and is now a free agent, source tells @TheAthletic. Underwent Tommy John surgery June 4. With the Dodgers' decision, Phillips immediately becomes a free agent who can sign with any club. That includes the Dodgers, be it on a Minor League deal or another Major League contract. For the time being, Phillips getting non-tendered opens another spot on the Dodgers' 40-man roster that now sits at 38 players."
"Phillips had a delayed start to the 2025 season because of the recovery from a small tear in the back of the rotator cuff in his right shoulder. He then managed to appear in just seven games before going back on the 15-day injured list due to right forearm discomfort. That was followed shortly after by news of Phillips requiring Tommy John surgery."
The Dodgers entered the offseason with nine arbitration-eligible players and reduced that group to five by the tender deadline, with Evan Phillips non-tendered. Phillips immediately became a free agent and can sign with any club, including the Dodgers on a Minor League or Major League deal, and his non-tendering lowered the 40-man roster to 38 players. Phillips missed much of 2025 due to a rotator cuff tear, appeared in only seven games before a forearm issue, then underwent Tommy John surgery on June 4 and has started a throwing program targeting a second-half 2026 return. MLB Trade Rumors projected a $6.1 million arbitration salary for Phillips despite his injuries.
