Billionaire developer Rick Caruso announced he will not run for Los Angeles mayor or California governor. He said the decision followed many heartfelt conversations with his family. He posted that though his name will not be on a ballot his work continues and that public service does not require a title. He will focus on his nonprofit Steadfast LA to assist Palisades fire recovery. Caruso previously spent $100 million opposing Karen Bass in 2022, served as president of the L.A. Police Commission and helped hire William Bratton. His decision solidifies the 2026 field against Bass.
