Following the devastating January wildfires in Los Angeles, which severely damaged thousands of homes, city officials, including Mayor Karen Bass, are actively working to expedite the rebuilding process. In response to the destruction caused by the Palisades and Eaton fires, authorities have implemented one-stop permitting centers for affected residents, simplifying the permitting process by waiving certain zoning reviews. This initiative aims to help homeowners return to normalcy by allowing prompt reconstruction of homes similar in size to those lost in the fire.
The city and county have opened one-stop permitting centers for fire victims and waived discretionary hearings and other zoning reviews for those who want to build new homes that are roughly the same size as their burned homes.
After the Palisades fire destroyed or seriously damaged more than 6,000 homes in Pacific Palisades and surrounding areas, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and L.A. County leaders pledged to streamline permitting procedures for property owners who want to rebuild.
