As Canyon fire winds down, heat wave bears down on Southern California
Briefly

Southern California is experiencing a heat wave with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees in inland valley areas. The Canyon fire, affecting northern Los Angeles and Ventura counties, has burned more than 5,000 acres and is 28% contained. Evacuation orders have been lifted as crews secure the perimeter and protect structures. A Kern County Fire Department Battalion Chief was seriously injured during operations and airlifted to a hospital. Heat advisories remain in effect, impacting firefighting efforts due to poor air conditions caused by extreme temperatures.
"The Canyon fire broke out Thursday northeast of Piru in Ventura County. By Thursday night, it had surged to 5,000 acres, triggering evacuations and advancing toward Castaic Lake and Interstate 5."
"James is a strong man with a big heart, and we know he's facing this challenge with the same strength and character he's shown throughout his career," said Kern County Fire Chief Aaron Duncan.
