Unmarked federal agents have been conducting immigration enforcement in Southern California businesses without notifying local police. Videos show agents, in plainclothes, detaining suspected undocumented immigrants, causing alarm among local officials. Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo criticized the lack of identification and coordination with local law enforcement, underscoring the potential risks involved. He pointed out a recent incident where an immigration officer brandished a firearm at an individual taking pictures. Local police departments assert they are not involved in immigration enforcement, yet instances of such federal action continue to provoke concerns.
In Torrance on Sunday, June 22, more than a dozen agents, mostly in plainclothes, arrived at the Bubble Bath Car Wash and quickly put two employees in handcuffs before shoving the owner and questioning a third employee.
To have federal agents come into our city and not notify our Police Department... without identifying themselves as law enforcement in unmarked vehicles and out of uniform creates a dangerous situation.
