After the Wildfires, This High School Needed a Campus. It Found a Sears.
Briefly

Following the devastating wildfire in January, Palisades Charter High School has temporarily moved to a retrofitted former Sears store in Santa Monica, now known as Pali South. This location will accommodate students for the remainder of the year and possibly longer, depending on the recovery of the original campus, which suffered extensive damage. The move has helped students reconnect after months of remote learning, with classrooms designed to reflect their previous school environment and support community resilience.
After everything we've been through, now we have a place to be all of a sudden, Charlie Speiser, a junior, said.
The new facility, located on the busy southern edge of Downtown Santa Monica, is called Pali South. It will serve students for the remainder of the school year, and potentially well into the next.
Teachers tried to find ways to make the new building feel more like their old school, catering to the emotional and social needs of returning students.
The building is a local landmark with a 1947 design by architect Rowland Crawford, showcasing the community's resilience and the school’s commitment to recovery.
